Opa van Sil vertelt over de oorlog in de cultuurklas -tekst en foto’s door Janny

We are a culture class doing a project on WWII. We are already at the war museum to us have been on the Putseweg and today Sil Grandpa came into the classroom to tell his experiences in World War II.

Het was echt heel bijzonder. Grandpa told from his heart and he told many anecdotes. For example, there was a secret radio in Bergen op Zoom. But that was confiscated by the Germans. Still, people wanted to know what happened in the world and a new radio came. But where they had to hide? As the father and mother were both deaf grandfather , the radio was hidden in their house… After all, who would think 2 Deaf people had a radio in their house !!

He also told how he went searching shell casings with his wheelbarrow and how he felt after the liberation from the Germans storage shoe and immediately took his father, was the shoemaker. He also talked about the refugees from Antwerp, about the shelter at the neighbor and the sandwiches with lard and grated carrots. It was a memorable morning. Sil was very proud of her grandfather !!
